Kiron Open Higher Education gGmbH is a social start-up founded in 2015 with the aim of breaking down existing barriers to higher education for refugees through digital learning and support services. The non-profit organisation has developed an online study programme for refugees to enable smooth access to higher education through the use of MOOC-based curricula.

Since 2015 Kiron University offers free online learning opportunities to refugees and underserved communities. It all started with a Crowdfunding campaign on German platform startnext and within a few weeks, the team raised more than 500 000 Euros.

Additionally, they provide short programs to prepare learners for the jobs market and develop quality assurance principles in alignment with international standards.
In all its activities, Kiron follows one goal: providing free access to high-quality education for academic professional and personal growth.“
